More colleagues outside their comfort zone to support charity

Sean and Dan scale new heights, raising funds in support of The Victoria Cross Trust

Our colleagues at Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping in Doncaster, security supervisor Sean McGann and security officer Dan Hershaw, recently completed a 14 hour round hike of Scafell Pike in The Lake District. Scafell Pike, at 978 metres, is England’s highest mountain, and war memorial cared for by the National Trust as a result of a gift after the war.

Sean has a couple of years of trekking experience, having built himself up with challenging hikes up Mount Snowdon in Wales and Ben Nevis in Scotland, while Dan had been training for only four months before the intrepid duo took on this challenge.

As well as achieving a personal challenge, the two wanted to do something to raise funds for The Victoria Cross Trust, which is based in the Doncaster shopping centre. The charity raises funds to ensure the memory and graves of every Victoria Cross recipient are remembered and maintained for generations to come, as many had been forgotten, were unmarked, without headstones or had fallen into disrepair without any living family members to maintain them. Sean is a former UK Forces member, which made helping veterans a cause close to his heart.

Sean described the challenge of climbing Scafell: “Hiking is something we both really enjoy, and if we can help others doing something we love that’s a bonus. I wanted to tick this one off before doing the Derbyshire 3 Peaks challenge. Scafell was tough, in that it’s really bad underfoot further up and coming back down is very hard on the knees and ankles, but it was well worth it.”

Sean and Dan are continuing to raise money for The Victoria Cross Trust and donations can be made here.

Well done, Dan and Sean from your colleagues at AM Services Group.
